House of Sky and Breath by Sarah J. Maas is the second book of the Crescent City series. I’ve been dying for this book to come out and of course I preordered it so I could receive it the day it was released. Sarah J. Maas is my absolute favorite author, and I love all her books and recommend them to everyone. So it will come as no surprise that I LOVE House of Sky and Breath as well, and I’m dying for the next book to come out. Like always, I will not have any spoilers for House of Sky and Breath. However, in my quotes section there may be quotes that could be considered spoilers. Read at your own risk.
SPACE
Plot
After saving Crescent City, Bryce Quinlan and Hunt Athalar are trying to relax and get back to normal in order to see what the future holds for them.
Doing this has helped keep the Asteri off their backs. However, with rebels needling away at the Asteri’s power, the risk they pose increases. Now Bryce, Hunt, and the gang are dragged into rebel operations and have to make a decision: stay quiet and safe while others are oppressed or fight back. They’ve never been good at being silent.
Review
First, I’m going to say the next book cannot be released soon enough. House of Sky and Breath is my most exciting read of 2022 so far. When I finished it, I totally freaked out and started spouting theories. My boyfriend, who hasn’t seen me finish a Sarah J. Maas book in person before was concerned. To be honest, he’s still concerned because I’ve spiraled.
To avoid spoilers, I’m going to be extremely vague about the story line. I usually am, but even more so with this book since it’s so new and the fandom is so large. As we know, Bryce and Hunt usually have an action packed, secret filled, and scheme plotting adventures. House of Sky and Breath is no different. However, instead of focusing mainly on Bryce and Hunt, the rest of the gang play big roles in this bigger game.
Since there are so many point of views in House of Sky and Breath, we get to see deeper into each characters personalities. Even though Bryce and Hunt are the main protagonists, I want to focus on what is known as the ‘frat pack.’ This group consists of Ruhn, Flynn, Declan, Ithan, and Tharion. Out of the five, Ruhn and Ithan quickly became my favorites. I simp for both of these males, but especially Ruhn. The depth and complexity of his character makes him the most relatable in my opinion. All in all, Ruhn is honestly one of the greatest written male characters that I’ve experienced.
Lastly, I want to note that spice in this book is great, so please go enjoy it.
Favorite Quotes
“To destroy monsters, we become monsters.”
“”You in, Chosen One?” Ruhn’s mouth quirked to the side. “Hel yeah, Starborn.””
“Team Fuck-You forever.”
“Our love is stronger than time, greater than any distance. Our love spans across stars and worlds.”
“Long live the queen.”
“Her flames seemed to reach for his stars and shadows.”
“I’m not the kind of male whose sense of pride is so brittle that I need to cling to a shiny weapon.“
